Rogelio González Pizaña (El Kelín or Z-2) was the second leader of The Los Zetas Organization. He assumed command after the death of Arturo Guzmán Decena in November 2002. His time as Zeta chief was short lived and he was captured on October 29th 2004.
Not much is known about Rogelio Gonzalez' early life. he joined the mexican army in his late teens. In March 1998 he deserted the army along with his comrades Arturo Guzmán Decena (Z1) and Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano (Z3) together they formed Los Zetas the following year with 30 other soldiers who deserted the army. On November 21st 2002 Arturo Guzman Decena was killed in a gun battle with members of the Mexican Army in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, shortly after the death of Guzman Rogelio became the Boss of the Los Zetas.
At 1am on October 29th 2004, the Mexican Federal Police caught up with him at the Covacha Bar in the city Matamoros, Tamaulipas Mexico. Rogelio Gonzalez tried to escape in his armored Volkswagen Passat, throwing grenades at agents and soldiers in his path. He was shot through the left side of the chest in the ensuing firefight. One federal agent, Omar García Jara, 28 years old died, along with two suspected members of Mr. Gonzalez's gang, one of whom burned to death in the Volkswagen Passat which became engulfed in flames during the gun battle.
